DEMONS IN THE RIVER

By Missionary John Henry, Th.D.

October 1, 2004

Psalm 74:12-14: "For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness. "

Isaiah 27:1: "In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea."

Revelation 9:13-15: "And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden alter which is before God, saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angles which are bound in the great river Euphrates. And the four angles were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to stay the third part of men."

Revelation 12:3, 7-9: "And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. ... And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

Each year in October over 200,000 people come from all part of Thailand to the little town of Phon Phisai and near by villages to view the demonic activity in the Mekong River. (It was here that many Laotians and Hmong Tribesmen were slaughtered while trying to escape from the communists after the fall of Laos in 1975.) Every year for 2 days in October that correspond with a Buddhist “holy day” red globe like projectiles (see photo) come up out of the water and disappear. They are called, Naka [Dragon] Fire Balls. This has been an annual occurrence for as long and the old timers can remember. The people believe the projectiles come from a dragon or dragons in the river. This is where one of the villages in our area gets the name: City Of The Chief Dragon. Thai people, especially the locals, worship and are very proud of their dragon.

Some even claim to have seen dragons, including the oldest member of Word Baptist, Mrs. Yai Ly. She saw the thing in the air when she was a teenager. Others have seen it in the river. Several years ago a young girl was supposedly abducted by a dragon and bore it’s child (Sounds similar to "UFO" encounters). This and other kinds occult demonic activity in our area are incredible! But in part, I believe these stories. Satan and his angels really do have power.

There are 2 types of fallen angels: 1) Those that have been chained, and 2) those that are now free. I believe that there are some fallen angels so wicked, vile and ferocious that God in His mercy has bound them and their unnatural offspring till the time of the Great Tribulation. At that time they will be released as part of God’s judgment on Christ rejecting mankind (Jude 6-7; 2 Peter 2:4; Revelation 9:3-14; cf. Genesis 6:1-4; Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:7). However, many fallen angels are not bound, but are assisting Satan in his wicked master plan in the attempt deceive men and overthrow God Almighty. Fallen angels are variously called: “principalities”, ”power”, and “ruler” of “the darkness of this world.” They are “in high places”, and have as their leader, Satan, “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2, 6:12). These loose demons explain the strange sightings, occult activity, and blinded minds of so many people in our area, and this annual event at the Mekong River might be explained by bound angels in the river.

The Thai people here in our area are fiercely loyal to their dragon god. Satan, “the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” (II Corinthians 4:4) That Great Red Dragon who is soon to be cast out really has the hearts and minds of the Thai people blinded. The Bible says, “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angles were cast out with him.” (Revelation 12 :9; cf. John 8:44) These people are following “the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.” (Ephesians 2:2)

We are in a real spiritual war, so we want to ask you to stand with us and, “put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. … praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all; and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.” (Ephesians 6:11, 18, 19; cf. I Peter 5:8-9)

We plan to use this 2 day period next October to hand out at least 20,000 tracts this year. So “… pray for us, that the Word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you. And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.” (2 Thessalonians 3:1-2)

ABOVE: The Thais of Nong Kai say this is a Naka. Actually it is the skin of a giant Reticulated Python being held by GIs who were stationed in Vientiane, Laos during the Vietnam Era.
